FAQS

What should I wear to the workshop?
Clay is messy stuff! Best to wear loose and comfortable clothing that is okay to get dirty. Don't worry too much though as clay is completely washable from material. Enclosed shoes are a must!
What if I've never worked with clay or operated a wheel before?
There is no problems with your experience level. A lot of workshops are catered to the absolute beginner. We guarantee that by the end of your workshop you will have multiple vessels made for us to fire!
What ages can participate in your wheel throwing workshops?
Our wheel throwing workshops are open to people from 8 years and up.
What happens if I need to cancel my workshop?
If you need to cancel your workshop booking we are unable to provide a refund however you are able to transfer the booking to someone else.
If you are unable or forget to attend, or to transfer the booking to another person, the booking at that stage is non refundable and non-transferrable.
Where do you fire your pottery?
We have electric kilns in our off site studio. This is where all the firing magic happens.
How long does it take to fire the pottery?
Anything you make in class takes between 2-4 weeks to be fired and ready to be picked up in store. When your piece is ready we will message you to let you know it is available for pick up. We will also send you a photo of your piece for easy identification.
What happens if my pot cracks in the kiln?
Clay can be a fickle medium. If there is any air trapped inside the clay, your vessel can explode in the firing process. We take extreme measures to make sure your creations are cared for and succeed through the firing stages but ultimately the fate of your creations rest in the kiln gods and therefore Hypmotive takes no responsibility if your creations crack, explode, break etc
What kind of Clay do you use?
We mainly use mid-fire stoneware for all of our workshops.
Can I rent a wheel?
Absolutely you can! We have reserved days for people to come in and hire a wheel. Check out our wheel hire page for more details.
Can I decorate my pots that I made in the wheel throwing workshop?
Absolutely you can! If you have completed your wheel throwing workshop you will have the option to come back and decorate your pots after they have gone through their first bisque fire. We will also check in with you post workshop to see if you would be interested in this option.
What if I would like to keep an extra pot from the wheel throwing workshop?
No problems! Just let your teacher know what vessels you would like to keep. For our beginner workshops, 2 pots to be fired is included in the ticket price. If you would like to keep more it will be $10 extra per pot.
Is my pot food and dishwasher safe?
Absolutely! The glaze we use is food safe and your pot can safely go through the dishwasher as well.
