WED 15th May & WED 22nd | 155 MARRICKVILLE ROAD, MARRICKVILLE, NSW |

In this beginner ceramics workshop you will learn how to make and glaze your own unique handmade platter, creating organic designs using leaves, bark, gum nuts, or even century old lace!

No experience is necessary and all materials are provided.

This workshop course runs over two consecutive weeks, 4 hours in total.

At the end of the workshop course, you will have created your own unique serving platter to take home with you ready for use.

Date:
First session: Wednesday 15th May 6:30pm-9pm (2.5 hours)
Second session: Wednesday 22nd May 6:30pm-8pm (1.5 hours)

Pick up of your set will be available from the 29th of May, during our regular shop trading hours.

SESSION 1 | Wednesday 15th May 6:30pm-9pm

We will begin with experimenting with the different organic items available, or that you have brought. After this, it’s time to make your platter (circular, square, oval or rectangular), and to generally prepare the clay in readiness for ‘making your mark’!
Now the creative fun starts, making lots of marks or creating one large, dramatic design from a single leaf or old piece of lace, or even combining a bit of everything. Anything goes!
Once you’ve impressed the clay, it’s time to really bring your platter to life, by painting underglaze into those lovely, deep recesses, or leafy veins.
At the end of the evening all work will be carefully transported to my studio, where it will be bisque fired, ready for glazing.

SESSION 2 | Wednesday 22nd May 6:30pm-8pm

This session will begin with sanding and general preparation before glazing. (There’s nothing worse than having a beautiful platter that scratches your table every time it’s used.)
Once each platter is totally smooth, it’s time to paint on a clear glaze, necessary to make it food safe.
As with last week, all work will be carefully transported to my studio, where it will be fired and returned to Hypmotive hub in readiness to be collected the following week.
Class Duration: 4 Hours in total.
