Introductory workshop to Kintsugi ceramic restoration
Would you like to try something new, creative and accessible?
Kintsugi is a century-old Japanese craftwork where broken ceramic objects are pieced back together using natural lacquer and gold dust, based on the philosophy of Wabi Sabi finding beauty in imperfection.
The process transforms much loved, worn items into a beautifully crafted, new piece of art. It is a chance to live in a more sustainable way and to rescue objects which would otherwise be discarded.
In this relaxed workshop taught by Japanese artist and designer Yoko Kawada you will learn introductory technique of “Modern Kintsugi”, mending  broken parts of ceramics together, to then apply lacquer and gold metal dust for the decorative finish.
The process follows the same principal of traditional method but using more accessible alternative materials which enables us to complete the whole process within the class and bring a  piece home.
All participants will repair the ceramic provided by Yoko in this workshop.
All materials are included.
Please bring eye glasses if you require them for the detailed work.

You’ll take home:

Your own repaired ceramic piece that you worked on during the workshop.
